More than 40,000 deaths associated with the disease have been recorded in the European country to date; France became a fifth place in infections in the world
The Ministry of Health of France reported 86,852 cases of the new coronavirus on Saturday, 7, beating the record of new infections for the third day and reaching a total of 1,748,705 people already infected with the disease, according to the information portal News Sky. With these figures, the country is the fifth in the number of infections in the world. On average, one in five coronavirus tests is positive in the European country. Deaths associated with the disease have already surpassed the 40,000 marks, with approximately 27,600 people admitted to hospital treatment.
The number of patients in intensive care has also increased in France over the past few days. According to local Health data, of the 20,000 people admitted to hospitals last week, approximately 3,000 needed intensive treatment. It is estimated that patients with Covid-19 already represent more than 85% of the initial intensive care capacity of French hospitals. After visiting the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital, the Prime Minister of France, Jean Castex tweeted: “The second wave arrived here brutally, violently”.
