Italy has counted three deaths from the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The Ministry of Health released the information on Sunday (19). The figure is the lowest recorded since the beginning of the pandemic of Covid-19 in February.
Now, the total number of deaths in the country reaches 35,045. The number of new contagions was 218, at a level that has been maintained in recent days. Thus, the total number of infections is 244,434 cases.
Of the 12,440 active cases, 49 are hospitalized in ICU units, 11,648 are in isolation at home, and 743 are receiving care in hospitals and medical centers. The number of cured in Italy reaches almost 200 thousand.
At the same time, in Germany, health officials reported on Sunday that a new Covid-19 outbreak was detected in a country’s refrigerator. After tests on 1046 people, 66 cases have been confirmed so far. Those infected, who live in different cities, were quarantined, as were people close to them.
In Frankfurt, one of Germany’s most important cities, 39 people were arrested during an outdoor party, attended by thousands of young people. Police officers were attacked with a “bottle rain,” Five policemen were injured when the police intervened in a fight.
The place has become a permanent center of agglomerations, which the local press has come to call “coronavirus parties”. Bars and clubs are still closed in the country to contain the spread of the virus.
In the United Kingdom, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said he was “absolutely sure” that Russia was involved in cyberattacks to steal data on a coronavirus vaccine.
Last week, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom accused Russian state intelligence of invading international pharmaceutical and academic research. Moscow would be trying to take advantage of studies from other countries to try to win the race for a vaccine against Covid-19.
Dominic Raab said he was “somewhat scandalous and reprehensible for the Russian government to be involved in these activities” when the world is coming together to contain the pandemic. In an interview with the Sky News broadcaster, this Sunday, he said: “We will hold Russia accountable and work to make the world aware of the nature of its harmful acts”, he emphasized.
In reaction, the Russian ambassador in London, Andrei Kelin, rejected the accusations. Speaking to the BBC, he said that it is impossible to attribute acts of hacking to a specific country.
In Hong Kong, a semi-autonomous region of China, the government tightened controls on account of the coronavirus. Authorities said the situation got out of hand after 108 new cases, a record number recorded in the past 24 hours.
